The name patchwork says it all: the rug is made up of patches from different vintage carpets, which together form one new whole.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eHow is a patchwork rug made?\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eEvery patchwork rug is handmade. First, parts of various vintage carpets and kilims are cut into neat rectangles. These patches are shaved down to the pile for the characteristic vintage look and often re-dyed — from calm beige and grey tones to outspoken turquoise or red. Then, the pieces are hand-arranged into a beautifully balanced whole, sewn together with coarse yarn and sturdy stitching, and placed on a backing so that the rug lies flat and smooth on the floor. Because the wool from the original carpets is reused, the result is durable, warm, and hard-wearing. That is a print — not a genuine patchwork.
