Origin and authenticity
This rug is an authentic Beni Ourain from the Middle Atlas of Morocco. The Beni Ourain tribes have been known for their hand-woven wool rugs for generations; they bear the hallmark of traditional Berber weaving art.
Every Beni Ourain is made by Berber women. The weavers incorporate symbols and stories from their daily lives into the pattern, making each rug unique and showcasing the soul and character of its maker.

Material and technique
The wool used for this rug is natural and unprocessed: the fibres retain their original colour, ivory for the background and brown or black for the geometric motifs. Beni rugs are considered the most prestigious Moroccan rugs, partly because they are made from the finest sheep's wool.

The rug is hand-knotted. This artisanal technique produces a medium-pile rug made of 100% natural wool; the wool feels soft, is resilient and provides comfort and warmth.

Pattern and colours
The typical Beni Ourain pattern consists of a diamond or rhombic motif on an ivory background. The black or dark brown intersecting lines give depth to the rug. Because the motifs are not drawn on a grid during weaving, subtle irregularities arise: diamonds vary slightly in size and are not perfectly aligned. These imperfections are characteristic of handmade items and enhance the unique character of the rug.
Natural wool is never snow-white; there are slight variations in the ivory shades. When the rug is in daylight, the natural fat layer of the wool gives the rug a soft sheen.

Dimensions and application
With an impressive size of 315 x 425 cm, this rug is ideal for spacious living rooms, lofts or luxurious office spaces. Its generous dimensions make the rug the centrepiece of the room and enhance a warm, inviting atmosphere.

Unique piece
This Beni rug is one of a kind; no two pieces are the same. Due to hand-weaving, slight variations in weave, pattern or shape may occur; these are not flaws but carry the story and love of the weaver. The worn fringes on one side accentuate its vintage character and add charm.

Maintenance and durability
To keep this heirloom in top condition, a few simple maintenance tips are important:

  • Regular vacuuming: Use a vacuum cleaner on low suction with a brush attachment to gently remove dirt and dust. Also vacuum the back of the rug to remove dust and sand. Avoid powerful vacuum cleaners or a rotating brush, as this can damage the wool.

  • Treat stains immediately: Blot spilled liquids with a clean, absorbent cloth and do not rub to prevent spreading. For water-soluble stains, a mild detergent with water can be used; for greasy stains, a special cleaning agent for natural fibres is recommended.

  • Periodic professional cleaning: Have the rug professionally cleaned every 1–2 years by a specialist who uses handwashing and ecological cleaning agents. Avoid steam cleaning or machine washing, as this can cause the wool to shrink or discolour.

  • Rotate the rug: Rotate the rug half a turn every six to twelve months so that it wears evenly and does not discolour due to sunlight.

  • Protective measures: Use furniture pads under heavy furniture and place a non-slip underlay beneath the rug to reduce shifting and wear.

With this care, your Beni Ourain will remain a timeless, durable and stylish rug that will last for generations.
