Buy Patchwork Rugs & Carpets

Looking for a patchwork rug? Our patchwork rugs are hand-assembled from pieces of vintage Oriental carpets and kilims — sustainable, colourful, and each one unique. Ideal for those looking for a real eye-catcher: a vintage patchwork rug fits just as well in a warm classic interior as it does in a cool industrial interior. Available in various sizes (including 200 x 300 cm) and custom-made in the desired colour if preferred.

The majority of the patchwork rugs in our collection come from Turkey, although we also have some Iranian pieces. The name patchwork says it all: the rug is made up of patches from different vintage carpets, which together form one new whole.

How is a patchwork rug made?

Every patchwork rug is handmade. First, parts of various vintage carpets and kilims are cut into neat rectangles. These patches are shaved down to the pile for the characteristic vintage look and often re-dyed — from calm beige and grey tones to outspoken turquoise or red. Then, the pieces are hand-arranged into a beautifully balanced whole, sewn together with coarse yarn and sturdy stitching, and placed on a backing so that the rug lies flat and smooth on the floor. Because the wool from the original carpets is reused, the result is durable, warm, and hard-wearing. And because the patterns and colours vary per patch, no two rugs are alike.

Genuine patchwork or machine-woven?

Please note: there are also machine-woven rugs with a patchwork design, made from synthetic fibres. That is a print — not a genuine patchwork. A genuine patchwork is composed of truly different vintage carpets, made of 100% wool, and you can see this reflected in the texture, colour depth, and the back of the rug. With us, you will only find original, hand-assembled patchwork rugs.

Sustainable rugs, completely in tune with the times

Of all the rugs in our collection, the patchwork rug is perhaps the most sustainable: vintage carpets literally get a second life. Patchwork originated from the tradition of reusing valuable textiles — and that is precisely what gives these rugs their character. In the living room, under the dining table, or in the hallway: a patchwork brings colour, atmosphere, and a story into your home.

Many of our patchworks are made from pieces of vintage kilims. Prefer a whole rug instead of patchwork? Then check out our hand-woven kilim rugs or our vintage rugs, which are shorn and recoloured in a similar way. Would you like to see a patchwork in real life first?
