Rugs & Persian carpets in Groningen
Galerie Hamming van Seventer · since 1994 · family business with 3 branches
Galerie Hamming van Seventer in Groningen is the address for hand-knotted rugs, kilims, and Persian carpets. Our store in Groningen, located at Gedempte Zuiderdiep, has been the heart of our family business since 1994. This is where Hamming van Seventer began — three decades later, it's still the place where carpet expertise, an Armenian family history, and a personal approach come together. Our family business was founded in Groningen in 1994 and has grown into one of the Netherlands' most specialized oriental carpet galleries — now with three branches and over 3,000 unique carpets in stock. With us, you don't buy a mass-produced item: every carpet is hand-knotted or woven from 100% wool or silk, vegetable-dyed, and unique — an investment for life, ranging from approximately €1,450 to €9,950.

"The building on Gedempte Zuiderdiep has been our home since 1994. This is where we started, and this is where we still feel most at home. Come by for advice, a cup of coffee, and to see the collection we've been proud of for over 30 years." — Gijs Hamming, owner

Frequently asked questions
Can I try a carpet at home?
Yes. With our free home viewing service, we visit your home with a selection of carpets so you can see how the rug works in your own interior, with your own light and furniture. No obligation to buy, no shipping costs. We have offered this service since 1994.
How much does a hand-knotted carpet cost at Hamming van Seventer?
Our carpets start around €1,450 for smaller kilims and go up to approximately €9,950 for exceptional silk Persian pieces. The price depends on knots-per-cm², material (wool or silk), origin, age, and size.
What is the difference between a kilim and a Persian carpet?
A kilim is woven (flat, no pile) with geometric patterns. A Persian carpet is knotted (with pile, thick) and offers more design freedom for fine floral and medallion patterns. We have both in stock.
Can I have a custom-made carpet?
Yes. If nothing from our stock fits your dimensions, we can have a custom-made rug knotted or woven for you. Delivery time averages 8–16 weeks.
