Buy Beni Ourain rugs – original from Morocco

Looking to buy a Beni Ourain rug? A Beni Ourain — often also spelled Beni Ouarain — is a hand-knotted Berber rug from the Atlas Mountains in Morocco, named after the Beni Ourain tribes of the Middle Atlas. The rugs are knotted by hand by Berbers from thick, undyed sheep's wool. That wool is barely processed and still contains a lot of natural lanolin, which gives a Beni Ourain a deep, soft pile and makes it surprisingly easy to keep clean.

Typical is the light field in ivory, cream or off-white, with graphic lines and diamonds in black, brown or grey. Some pieces are tone-on-tone, with a pattern that lives only in the texture; the odd one is boldly coloured. Because the pattern is knotted by hand, no line is perfectly straight and every rug is one of a kind.
