Custom Rugs — Hand-knotted or Hand-woven

Does nothing from our stock match your size, color or style? We can have a rug knotted or woven for you in exactly the desired dimensions, shape and color — 100% wool or silk, vegetable dyed, a rug for life.

From €500 · delivery time 6–16 weeks · any size up to 6 × 20 m · round, oval or rectangular · 30+ years of experience

A custom rug from Galerie Hamming van Seventer is fundamentally different from an industrially "made-to-measure" rug from a box. We have real hand-knotted or hand-woven rugs made by the same weavers and knotters who make our stock rugs — in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco or in Nepal. This takes 6 to 16 weeks, costs from €500, and results in something permanent: a rug that fits your space, your color palette, and that will last 50 to 100 years.

How a custom rug works — in four steps

2Determine size & shapeTogether we measure your space. Rectangle, runner or round? From 40×60 cm to 6×20 m. Our advisors help with the right proportions for your interior.
3Choose material & color100% wool or silk. Vegetable dyed in your desired color scheme. We show you color samples and ongoing examples before you decide.
4Production & deliveryManufacturing in 6–16 weeks (depending on technique). We keep you informed of progress and personally deliver the rug to your home.

Sizes, shapes and materials

What sizes are possible?

Virtually any size — from small runners (40×120 cm) to room-sized rugs of 6 × 20 meters. Round rugs from 100 to 400 cm diameter, oval also possible. Ask our advisors what suits your space.

What shapes?

Standard rectangular or square. Runners (narrow and long) for halls or stairs. Round and oval. Irregular shapes (L-shape, octagonal) on request — ask for advice on the possibilities.

What materials?

Always natural. 100% wool from the Iranian highlands, Atlas Mountains or Anatolian steppe — for most rugs. Silk for fine, shiny pieces. Dyes are vegetable-based: indigo, madder root, walnut, pomegranate.

What colors?

Virtually any color spectrum is possible — from muted earth tones and soft pastels to bright primary colors. With vegetable dyes, each color gets a unique, lively patina that no synthetic color can match.

Frequently asked questions about custom rugs

In what sizes can I have a custom rug made?

From small (40×60 cm for a runner) to very large (up to 6×20 meters for room-sized pieces). Round, oval and irregular shapes are also possible. Our advisors will help you determine the right size for your space.

How long does it take to have a custom rug made?

Depends on technique and complexity. Hand-woven Berbers: 6–8 weeks. Hand-knotted Berbers and Nepal rugs: 8–16 weeks, depending on knot density and size. We will keep you updated on the process.

Can I choose the color and pattern myself?

Yes. Many designs — especially Berbers, Nepal rugs and designer rugs — can be made in your desired color scheme. You can also choose an existing pattern and only change the colors, or start with a completely new design.

How much does a custom rug cost?

Custom-made rugs start from approximately €500. A hand-woven Berber 200×300 cm from €959, a hand-knotted Berber from €216 per m² (200×300 cm from €1,175). Nepal rugs from €495 per m² (up to €929 per m² with silk accents). We always give a fixed price upfront.

What materials do you use?

Always natural: 100% wool from the Iranian highlands, Atlas Mountains or Anatolian steppe. For fine pieces, optionally silk. Dyes are vegetable-based (indigo, madder root, walnut, pomegranate peel) — never synthetic colors.

Can I see the rug before I decide?

Yes, in several ways. Visit one of our three galleries to see similar pieces in real life. Or use our free at-home viewing service: we bring examples to your home so you can see how color, texture and design work in your own interior — before you determine the final size and color.

A word from our chief advisor

"A custom rug is not a catalog product. We first ask you how your space feels — not just how big it is. What light falls on it? What is around it? How is the space used? Only then do we talk about wool or silk, knots-per-cm², and the final size down to the centimeter. A well-chosen custom rug is something that will still fit perfectly twenty years from now — and that is our entire job." — Galerie Hamming van Seventer, chief advisor
