Frequently asked questions

Answers to the most common questions about our rugs, galleries and services.

Are your rugs really hand-knotted?

Yes. Since 1994 Galerie Hamming van Seventer has specialised in hand-knotted oriental rugs and hand-woven kilims, not machine-made rugs. Our advisors personally vouch for origin and quality.

Where are your galleries and when are they open?

Groningen: Gedempte Zuiderdiep 71, 9711 HC. Amstelveen: Dorpsstraat 33, 1182 JA. Hilversum: 's Gravelandseweg 29A, 1211 BN. All galleries are open Tuesday to Friday 11:00–18:00 and Saturday 10:00–17:00; Amstelveen also on Sunday 13:00–17:00. We are closed on Mondays.

What is happening to the Amstelveen store?

Until the end of 2026 we are holding a clearance sale in Amstelveen. From January 2027 we continue at the same address as Premium Outlet Galerie Amstelveen. The store stays open, also for advice and for bringing rugs for cleaning.

Do I need an appointment?

No, walk-ins are welcome during opening hours. With an appointment you have our full attention and the right rugs are ready for you. An appointment is free and without obligation.

Can I see a rug at home first?

Yes. With our free home viewing service we bring a selection of rugs to your home so you can see them in your own interior. There is no obligation to buy. This does not apply to rugs made to order.

How much does a hand-knotted rug cost?

Our rugs start at around €150 for smaller kilims and go up to around €65,000 for exceptional Persian masterpieces.

Can you clean or restore my rug?

Yes. We provide professional cleaning and restoration of hand-knotted rugs, including rugs bought elsewhere. You can bring your rug to, among others, our gallery in Amstelveen. See cleaning and restoration for the process and prices.

Can I have a rug made to measure?

Yes. If nothing in our stock fits your size, we can have a rug knotted or woven to measure. Custom work is excluded from returns and refunds.

Can I return an online order?

Online orders have a 14-day cooling-off period. Rugs bought in one of our stores are not refunded, but can be exchanged for another rug. See the return conditions for full details.

What is the difference between a kilim and a Persian rug?

A kilim is woven: flat, without pile, usually with geometric patterns. A Persian rug is knotted and has a pile.
