Balouch Soumack 121 x 180 cm
Row upon row of fine motifs on a glowing deep-red field.
This Balouch Soumack was made by nomads in South Persia, from hand-spun wool and silk, dyed with vegetable dyes. In the soumack technique the threads are wrapped around the warp, which gives a flat, sturdy and refined weave. Bands of stars, diamonds and hook motifs in blue, ochre and ivory alternate, with colourful tassels along the edges. A piece to look at for a long time.
