Buy Soumack kilims
On this page, you will find a selection from our unique Soumack kilim collection. Soumacks distinguish themselves from other carpets because multiple techniques are used in their creation. They are partly knotted, partly woven, and/or partly embroidered. This gives them a special 3D effect. The weaving technique is different from that of "regular" slit-weave kilims. It is woven in one piece, making the base as strong as a knotted rug. The Soumacks from Iran often come from the nomads of the Zagros Mountains, a rugged and inhospitable area, which means the wool is of exceptional quality. After all, the harsher the climate, the stronger the wool.
Natural dyes
All dyes are purely natural, with nothing added. This makes the colors warm and authentic. Moreover, each piece is made from memory, so you always get a unique rug. Cheerful colors and sometimes ancient symbols complete the whole. From Afghanistan, we receive the Barjesta's. Again, a combination of knotting and weaving techniques. Barjesta's are characterized by knotted horizontal stripes, also dyed with vegetable dyes. From the cheerful "funky lines" in striking colors to warm pieces in calm earth tones, or pieces where one sticks to a specific color palette. Finally, we have the majestic Caucasian Soumacks, with the classic flatweave method in beautiful natural shades. The Soumacks from these areas are characterized by geometric patterns. In our collection, we have both recently made pieces and some antique gems.
